Stanford University – Huang Engineering Center

David Carroll Associates was asked to facilitate a multi-million dollar AV job for the Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) at the Huang Engineering Center at Stanford University. The SCPD connects engineering professionals worldwide with the resources and faculty at the Stanford University School of Engineering.

The multi-phase project encompassed three main sections:

  • Designing and building three high definition video classrooms.
  • Designing and building 25 other AV enabled spaces, including multiple small conference and breakout rooms, a large boardroom, a café and general circulating areas.
  • Designing and building an executive boardroom.

DCA’s work in the Huang Engineering Center showcases the full range of our capabilities, including cost-effective design, custom electronics and a full complement of custom-designed technical furniture, such as:

  • Control room work station specifically designed to fit a difficult space.
  • Teaching station with a “walk in mode” controller, confidence monitor and elevator platform for the visualizer that improves usability.
  • Acoustically isolating projection enclosures.

  • Flat Classroom

    Flat Classroom

Multi-use, flexible teaching space for lecture, small group or workshop. Central projector can display on white board or 90 degree rotated to drop down screen. Standing Teaching station version. Ceiling mounted student response microphones.
  • Tiered Classroom

    Tiered Classroom

Table mounted student response microphones. Dual projection. Seated teaching station.
  • Auditorium

Triple projection configuration, seated teaching station. Ceiling student response system.
  • Head End Control Room

    Head End Control Room

Pre-visualization model used during design process and for client approvals.
  • Head End Control Room

    Head End Control Room

Multi-view command and control head end for all of SCPD’s classrooms. Built on custom console and monitor controller for rapid access to any signal.
  • Typical local control room

    Typical local control room

Each of the three classrooms has an associated control room for SCPD’s student operator crew to run live captures with semi-automated systems assist that simplifies and standardizes control.
  • Standing Teaching Station

    Standing Teaching Station

This version of the teaching station is similar to what was used in the Packard 101 room. Provides “walk-in” mode controls to enable room use without Control Room operator. Hidden document visualize rises from the compartment on the right.
  • Seated Teaching Station

    Seated Teaching Station

Custom bamboo plywood fabricated teaching station, with hidden motor driven elevator for Wolfvision visualizer, confidence monitor, and controller.

  • Video Switcher Controller

    Video Switcher Controller

DCA’s custom panel exposes production switcher-like controls to student operators when needed for assisted capture, while allowing full Crestron automation of video for walk-in mode.
  • Off-site Integration

    Off-site Integration

All systems are pre-built, tested and programmed in DCA’s lab prior to site delivery.
  • Broadcast Quality Cameras
